The widely used approach places hand-broken pieces between layers of regular ground flower. The flower helps the Moon Rock stay lit and burn evenly instead of tunneling or going out. Glass is the friendliest surface, for the same reason — the resin content that makes Moon Rocks what they are also makes them sticky and slow to combust. Store them cool and dark. Heat and light degrade terpenes first, and the kief layer is where much of the aroma lives.

The format was popularized in large part by the rapper Kurupt and his Kurupt Moonrock brand, and Girl Scout Cookies was the strain most associated with early versions — though any genetics can be used.
