King Louis

The collaboration comes first on this one.

King Louis is one of a small number of Presidential releases where a second name is printed on the front of the pack. The line reads IN COLLABORATION WITH VLAD TV.

That is unusual for a cannabis product and it is worth saying plainly: this is a media collaboration, not a cultivation one. Presidential's other partnerships on the shelf are growers and processors — Ball Family Farms, Nature's Chemistry out of Las Vegas, Top Shelf Cultivation, THC Design, Trendi by Planet 13, Moxie, Polaris Cannabis, ROVE, Platinum. VladTV is a platform with a very large audience. The pack reflects that difference and so does the artwork.

What is in it

Flower forms the body. Live resin coats it. Diamonds — the crystalline concentrate — finish the outside and give a Presidential Moon Rock the density that makes it burn the way it does. Three stages, in that order, through the Presidential Infusion System the company has run since Los Angeles in 2012.

The format ladder

King Louis also runs in the other Presidential formats and the constants hold. The Preroll is a single unit at 1 gram, .035 oz. Loose Moon Rocks are 2 grams, 0.071 oz. The Mini Blunt three-pack is 3 × 0.7 grams for 2.1 grams total. The Mini Preroll three-pack is 3 × 0.5 grams for 1.5 grams total.

Same build in all of them. Collaboration releases in particular tend to reach fewer formats and fewer markets than the core Gold Series, so what a given shop carries varies more than usual.

The pack, and why it is the best-designed in the line

A large blue-grey full moon fills the right of the frame. In front of it, in profile, a bearded king in a golden crown looks left. Deep-red smoke billows up the left side, threaded through with ornate gold baroque scrollwork. The strain name runs across the bottom in big teal-and-red outlined script.

It is the only pack in the catalogue that reads as a portrait.

Most of the line puts an object or a landscape behind the product — fruit for Papaya Punch, planets for Galactic Gas, a locomotive for Ghost Train Haze, a city skyline for NYC Diesel. This one puts a character there, and gives him the moon as a backdrop rather than a prop. Given the name and the partner, that is exactly the right call.

Underneath the illustration the standard architecture is intact: the silver crown crest and PRESIDENTIAL banner, the crescent-moon unit numeral, the format line, the name lozenge, and the composition line separated by pot-leaf dots.
